Beginning with the spring (January) 2022 semester, high school juniors and seniors may be eligible to receive a scholarship that covers the tuition and fees for their dual credit or dual enrollment courses. To qualify, students must be taking dual credit or dual enrollment courses from a Missouri college or university and meet the eligibility criteria listed under Am I Eligible? below. Awards will be prioritized based on financial need determined by adjusted gross income (AGI) from the most recent tax year.

Information about this new scholarship is still being finalized.  Check www.dhewd.mo.gov  periodically as more information becomes available.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for assistance you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Enroll in eligible dual credit/dual enrollment coursework through an approved Missouri institution
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average and have otherwise met the high school’s requirements for taking dual credit or dual enrollment coursework (standardized test score, etc.)
  • Have attended an A+ designated high school for at least two years
  • Be meeting the A+ Scholarship’s good citizenship and avoidance of the unlawful use of drugs and alcohol requirement

Is the scholarship limited to certain dual credit or dual enrollment providers?

Students can receive the scholarship for dual credit or dual enrollment courses taken from most Missouri public and private colleges and universities that offer such coursework.  If you’re unsure if your dual credit or dual enrollment provider is included in this scholarship, contact us at (800) 473-6757, option 4.

How much can I receive?

Semester award amounts are based on the actual tuition and fees charged for the dual credit or dual enrollment coursework after all non-loan aid, such as a dual credit or dual enrollment scholarship from a postsecondary institution or third party, is applied.  As a result, awards will vary by student, depending on the number of hours of dual credit/dual enrollment coursework the student is enrolled in and the per credit hour tuition rate charged.  Awards for a single student may also vary by semester, again depending on the student’s enrollment and tuition rate(s) charged.  If you’re taking dual credit or dual enrollment courses from more than one approved college or university, you can receive the scholarship at each one.

How can I apply?

Students must apply for the scholarship each semester.

  1. Complete and submit the electronic Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship application by the deadlines below for each semester.
  2. Mail a copy of the page that shows the AGI from the most recent 1040 federal tax form for the parent or guardian that claimed you as a dependent for that tax year. Mail the AGI information to:

Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development

    Attn.: Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship

    P.O. Box 1469

    Jefferson City, MO 65102-1469

Include your (the student’s) name, date of birth, and high school, either at the top of the tax page or on a separate page, so the AGI information can be matched with your application.

You are only required to submit the AGI information with your first application for the academic year. For example, if you receive the scholarship for the fall semester you will not be required to resubmit the AGI documentation with your application for the spring semester. However, if there is a correction to your family’s AGI between the fall and spring semesters, documentation of the correction will be required.

Be sure to redact any Social Security numbers on the page of the tax form.

Deadlines

Spring (January to May): February 1 is the priority deadline for the spring semester each year. Applications received after that date and on or before April 1 will be considered based on funding availability.

Fall (August to December): October 1 is the priority deadline for the fall semester each year. Applications received after that date and on or before December 1 will be considered based on funding availability.

How will I know if I am eligible?

MDHEWD will collect eligibility and preliminary cost information from your high school, and will use that information to rank order eligible applicants from lowest to highest AGI. Awards will be made in rank order until all of the available funding is expended. If there is an AGI tie at the cutoff point, the earliest application received data will be used to determine which student is awarded.

You will receive an email at the address provided on the application with your eligibility status (ineligible, awarded, or unfunded).

How will I receive my award?

MDHEWD will send the names of awarded students to the appropriate dual credit/dual enrollment providers for final eligibility verification and the enrollment and cost information needed to calculate the award. MDHEWD will then calculate the award and disburse the funds to your dual credit/dual enrollment provider(s). They will apply the funds to your account.
