
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Eight Missouri 4-H members competed this month at the 2022 Western National Roundup, an annual event held in tandem with the Western National Stock Show in Denver.
During the four-day event, 4-H and FFA members from more than 30 states competed in various categories and project areas. Youths also attended leadership development and career exploration workshops.
This year, Andrew Shelton, of Barton County, and Kelsey Miller, of Warren County, competed in impromptu and prepared speaking events. Miller placed fourth overall in impromptu speaking.
Jori Todd, Newton County, and Eileen Shafer, Cole County, competed in the Fashion Revue, with Shafer placing fifth in the constructed garment/outfit category.
Brayden Gast, Josie Banes, Mason Forkner and Stetson Wiss, all of Vernon County, competed as a team in livestock judging, placing 11th overall.
Missouri 4-H members chosen to compete at the Western National Roundup were selected from Missouri 4-H’s 2021 state competitions.

4-H is America’s largest youth development organization. The program empowers young people with skills to lead for a lifetime. Youths collaborate with caring adult mentors to lead hands-on projects in areas such as science, health, agriculture and citizenship. Mentors provide a positive environment where youths learn by doing. The 4-H experience is delivered by a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation.
