SILEX, Mo.– The Silex Lady Owls defeated the North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds 9-1 on Thursday evening. The win allowed Silex to extend their win streak and remain undefeated in EMO Conference play.
The Lady Owls are on fire this season and they are currently on a 14 game win streak. The team’s last and only loss came in a jamboree on August 24, when they fell to Montgomery County 5-0. Since then, the progam has asserted its dominance and they’ve become the top-dog in the EMO Conference.
Silex got on the board in the first inning after Taylor Howard ripped a single up the middle and Sarah Weatherford laid down a perfect bunt. The Lady Owls punched a run across with a sharp ground ball hit by Gwen Gilbert. Silex went on to score one run in the third and one run in the fourth inning.
The Lady Owls tallied six runs in the sixth inning and almost ended the game in run-rule fashion. Offense in the sixth inning was led by Karlie Ellis, Howard, and Gilbert. The trio all sent runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Howard was dialed in at the plate on Thursday and in the circle. The senior tallied four hits in the victory, three singles, and a double. From the rubber, Howard recorded eight strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits.
