
BOWLING GREEN, Mo.– The Bowling Green Lady Cats bounced back Thursday night and picked up a 9-2 EMO Conference win over the Van-Far Lady Indians. The Lady Cats fell to Silex earlier in the week and needed a win to get back in their groove.
Bowling Green got things started in the first inning when an error led to three runs. Grace Deters and Tanner Turner both singled in the inning, setting the table for the cleanup hitter, Sydney Charlton. Charlton found her way to first on a hard-hit ball to second base that led to an error. With the bases loaded, Kaelynn Wommack hit a groundball to shortstop Devy Keller. Keller couldn’t make the play at first and sailed the ball over first baseman Madilyn Ingram’s head. This error led to three quick runs for the ladies in red and black.
Van-Far came back in the third inning and posted two unearned runs to cut the deficit to only one.
Bowling Green ran away with this game in the fourth as the team notched four more runs on the board. The team’s big inning was driven by a triple by Deters, a single by Aleece Walker, and a double by Meredyth Betts.
The Lady Cats pushed two runs across in the fifthing inning and had the chance to end the game in run-rule fashion. Van-Far’s Mara Jensen shut down Bowling Green before they could punch across anymore runs and left the winning runs stranded in scoring position.
Tanner Turner made it tough for the Lady Indians to score any more runs after Van-Far highlight the third inning. pitched. Turner allowed only one hit and struck out thirteen in the EMO Conference showdown.
Jensen took the loss as the Van-Far ace allowed nine runs on ten hits. Although, only six runs were earned in Jensen’s outing and she recorded four strikeouts.
Bowling Green will be back in action Friday night in another EMO Conference battle against the Elsberry Indians. Bowling Green will host Elsberry, first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. Van-Far will look to bounce back this Saturday as the team competes in the Bulldogs Invitational Tournament at Wallace Park in Louisiana.
