CLARKSVILLE, Mo.– The Clopton Lady Hawks were victorious Wednesday night, as they defeated the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs 13-3 in five innings of conference play. In their last two games, the Lady Hawks have run-ruled their opponents by ten runs or more.
Louisiana started out hot at the plate and posted three runs in the top of the first inning. Sophmore catalyst Alli Jenkins got things started for the Lady Bulldogs, reaching base on an error from Clopton shortstop Kelsey Shuford. Tessa Depriest drew a walk, setting up the middle of the Louisiana lineup to do some damage with one out. Tatum Depriest and Ty Campbell got the job done for the Lady Bulldogs and drove in three runs to give Louisiana an early lead.
Clopton was quick to strike back in the home half of the first and jumped on Louisiana’s Ty Campbell early. Rileigh Kuntz led off the inning with a triple and Braya Smith knocked in Kuntz with an inside-the-park home run. Clopton went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the first and notched five runs on the board before Louisiana could record three outs.
Clopton’s ace, Shana Yates, and Louisiana’s Ty Campbell both settled in nicely from the circle after a lively first inning. In innings two through four, only one run was allowed on either side. Clopton picked up one run in the third inning to extend their lead to three runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Clopton led Louisiana 6-3. The Lady Hawks demonstrated their offensive strength and posted seven runs on Campbell, to win the game in walk-off fashion.
