BOWLING GREEN, Mo.– Bowling Green was defeated by Palmyra 5-2 in a tough, extra innings competition on Thursday night. This is the second time Bowling Green has been defeated by Palmyra this season.

Bowling Green had a strong second inning, giving the red and black a two-run lead that they would keep for much of the game. Delaney Feldmann got things started with a single up the middle, followed by Meredyth Betts who reached first base on an error in left field. Aleece Walker tripled on a deep fly to right field, driving in two runs.

The Lady ‘Cats held this lead until Palmyra knotted the game up at two in the top of the sixth inning.

With two outs and runners in scoring position, Palmyra’s Kennedy Wilson singled to left field. This clutch hit tied the game at two and put the pressure on Bowling Green to score.

A clean seventh inning on both sides led to no change in score. The Lady ‘Cats and the Panthers were forced to duke it out in extra innings.

With one out in the eighth, a hit batter, and an error put Bowling Green in a predicament. On an 0-1 count, Jansen Juette hit a three-run blast that cleared the scoreboard in left field. Palmyra took the lead 5-2 in the top of the eighth and it killed any momentum Bowling Green had.

The Lady ‘Cats failed to string together hits in the eighth and went down rather quietly.

Senior Tanner Turner picked up the loss from the circle for the red and black. Turner allowed five runs on the night, two of which were earned, and racked up 14 strikeouts.
