The Lady ‘Cats ended their 2020 season on a high note, tieing for third place in the state tournament. Bowling Green lost four key players to graduation, but they’ve relied on underclassmen this season to fill some big shoes offensively.
“Our younger group is mixing in well. Some of our underclassmen are our top hitters right now. Not a lot of teams have the younger talented group that can hold the fort until our older girls settle in their roles,” said head coach Craig Smith
Smith expects his athletes to settle in as the season progresses and hit their stride heading into the district tournament in October.
“We need to be playing our best when districts role around, we will be facing some tough teams,” added Smith.
Fulton who is ranked just above Bowling Green in the fourth slot, will be a competitor for the Lady ‘Cats in the district tournament.
“We saw Fulton at the Troy Tournament and they are deserving of their spot in the rankings. We will have our hands full, but I know these girls will be up to the challenge,” said Smith.
Bowling Green defeated Hannibal and Montgomery County earlier in the week, bringing the team to a record of 8-3. The Lady ‘Cats look to pick up a win over Palmyra on Thursday night to wrap up homecoming week on the softball diamond.
