LOUISIANA, Mo.– The Louisiana Area Historical Museum is celebrating Missouri’s bicentennial in a colorful way. A new exhibit called “Flags of Missouri” is now open. It features nine ensigns that have flown over the state since the first settlers arrived. There’s also a Native American display. The flags include the Republic of France, Kingdom of Spain, Royal French, the Lewis and Clark, the 15-star “Star Spangled Banner,” the 24-star Statehood banner, Missouri State Guard and the present Missouri flag. Museum board member Stephen Moss created the display. He hopes to add a Missouri State Union banner from the Civil War. The exhibit is featured in the museum’s Stark Brothers Nurseries room. Missouri celebrates Statehood Day August 10th. The museum at 304 Georgia is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and admission is free.
