OZARK, Mo. — The Elsberry Indians faced the Linn Wildcats in the MSHSAA Class 3 Semifinal on Wednesday in Ozark, MO at US Baseball Park.
Starter Sean Phillips surrendered a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but forced Linn to leave the bases loaded, preventing further damage in the frame.
Kaden Kinsler then led off the bottom of the first with a triple to left-center, but in a sign of things to come, Kinsler was stranded at third as the Indians couldn’t find the big hit.
The Wildcats would go on to knock in a run in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and another pair in the sixth for a 10-0 lead.
Elsberry would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth, trying to extend the game to the seventh, but a pick-off and strike out ended the inning and the Indians chances to compete for the Class 3 title.
The Wildcats knocked in 10 hits, drew 10 walks and were gifted three more runners on hit by pitches.
Elsberry also committed three errors in the contest.
In addition to the Kinsler triple, Will Stonebreaker and Colby Twellman had hits for Elsberry.
The Indians will face Jefferson of Festus on Thursday in the Class 3 Third Place game.
The BlueJays fell to St. Pius X of Kansas City 4-1 in the first semifinal game of the day.
Pregame on KJFM is set for 10:45 this Thursday morning with first pitch at 11AM.
