
VANDALIA, Mo. — Offensive prowess led the Van-Far Lady Indians to victory over the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs 62-22 on Thursday night. The first EMO Conference season match up put Van-Far 1-0 in conference play.
The Lady Indians gained possession of the ball at tip off and failed to score in their first drive for the basket. The Lady Bulldogs had the opportunity to score first in the contest, but strong defense from Van-Far lead to two quick baskets in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Louisiana’s Emily Powell responded immediately to the two quick baskets with a jumper, putting the ‘Dawgs on the board. Louisiana fell silent offensively for the next four minutes of the first quarter as Van-Far continued to drive the ball to the hole, posting sixteen points. Ty Campbell broke the offensive drought posting four points for the Bulldogs in the last two minutes of the quarter.
Van-Far continued to warm-up, finding their way to the basket and free throw line often in the second quarter. Fouls and turnovers from Louisiana enhanced Van-Far’s offensive momentum, extending the Indians lead. Van-Far tacking on another thirty-four points in the second quarter, bringing the score to 54-16 at half-time.
Despite efforts from Louisiana’s leading scorer Campbell, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t keep up with the Indians offensive and defensive pressure. Campbell posted twelve points in the EMO Conference contest, Powell had six points, and Brylin Stewart had four.
Louisiana is set to face Monroe City on Monday night at 5 p.m. in the 96th Annual Monroe City Tournament.
