
MOKANE, Mo. — Silex was defeated by Fulton in the South Callaway tournament championship 10-0 in five innings of play. Despite their second place finish the Owls picked up two big wins earlier in the day.
The Owls kicked off their day full of games at 10:30 A.M. on this bleak October Saturday, battling St. Elizabeth in game one. Silex jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. St. Elizabeth responded immediately putting the pressure on the Owl’s defense to execute, as they posted three runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking the lead. Silex ace Taylor Howard lead the Owls to a win, allowing no runs in the remaining six innings of play. Scoring six runs in the seventh inning, the Owls were victorious posting a final score of 11-3.
Making their way into the winner’s bracket, Silex faced Salisbury in the tournament semi-final. Karlie Ellis pitched seven innings for the Owls, allowing six runs on eleven hits, getting the win for Silex. The ladies in green and black, demonstrated their offensive prowess as they once again scored eleven runs. Lexi Plackemeier lead the Owl’s offensively, driving in five runs on three hits.
Facing a tough Fulton Hornets in the championship game, Silex was unable to execute offensively. Fulton jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, and Silex was unable to recover. In the third inning Taylor Howard hit a double, which would go down as the only hit of the game for Silex. Howard took the loss on the mound for the Owls, allowing ten runs on eight hits, striking out six.
