VANDALIA, Mo. — The Silex Lady Owls traveled to Vandalia to battle EMO conference opponent the Van-Far Lady Indians on Tuesday night, defeating their conference foe 14-0 in five innings.
The Lady Owls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a three-run-homerun from Maddy Hall, which was her first over the fence hit. Capitalizing on errors and timely hitting, Silex found themselves in scoring position often. In the top of the third inning, Gwen Gilbert hit her first homerun tacking on another three runs for the Owls. Gilbert also lead Silex in hits on the night, going four-for-four at the plate. The Owl’s offense pounced on Van-Far’s pitching staff, putting up ten runs on the Indians ace Devyn Keller in two innings, and four runs on Kaylen Culwell.
Van-Far struggled to find their offense, producing only one hit in the five innings of play. Silex was perfect defensively, recording no errors this evening. Silex’s work horse, Taylor Howard, recorded four strikeouts in her three innings of work, no walks and allowed the sole hit of the game. Howard was relieved by Karlie Ellis who recorded two strikeouts, no walks, and no hits, against a Van-Far offense that is known for being tough.
The Lady Owls move to 11-3 on the season and will battle EMO Conference opponent, North Callaway on Thursday. Van-Far will search for some momentum and win number five on the season on Thursday as they travel to Community R-VI.
