BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — The Bowling Green Lady ‘Cats battled the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs for the infamous “Battle of 54” rivalry. The ladies in red and black put up 11 runs in five innings, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 11-1.
Louisiana’s offense was a threat, as the Lady Bulldogs were making solid contact throughout the game. Unfortunately for the maroon and white, the Lady ‘Cats brawny defense robbed potential runs and hits from the Lady Bulldogs.
Bowling Green’s senior pitcher Summer Scherder was stellar on the mound allowing only one run in the third inning of play. After giving up a run in the top of the third, Scherder’s offense rallied behind her, picking up five runs in the bottom of the inning. When Scherder ran back to the mound for inning four, she recorded three outs on five pitches.
Bowling Green needed one run in the fifth inning to secure the run-rule win. Senior Jade Meier reached first base, allowing a runner to cross home plate, ending the game in walk-off fashion.
Following the game, Bowling Green honored six of their seven seniors as Haylee Chandler was unable to be in attendance for tonight’s game. Chandler, a four-year member of the Lady ‘Cat’s program will be honored at a later date. Seniors Grace Dameron, Mckenna Orf, Summer Scherder, Jade Meier, Audrey Dean, and Kennedy Street, walked through a tunnel of bats held up by their teammates and were escorted by their parents. The girls received a bouquet of flowers as well as a customized gift box to celebrate their dedication to the softball program.
