LOUISIANA – Abel’s Quik Stop, Joe’s Jug on Georgia Street was selected the winner of this year’s scarecrow decorating contest sponsored by the Community Betterment Association.
There were over 20 businesses that participated in the contest. The judges indicated there were many great entries, particularly ones that used their business as the theme like The Mercantile Bank, Eagle’s Nest and MASH. One of the best entries was in front of the NE Missouri Title Company.
Although the many entries were incredibly creative and the decision was quite difficult, the judges returned with their final ballots for the winner at Abel’s.
Diana Huckstep, LCBA chair, said she was pleased with how the event went this year.
"This was the first year for the contest and participation was just great," she remarked.
There were even a few late entries that were not able to be in the competition, but put scarecrows out anyway including Ayerco at the bridge and Mike Lindsey’s on Georgia Street.
“Our committee received so many positive comments about the event and we hope that the businesses enjoyed participating as much as the folks who drove around the community to look at each entry," Huckstep said. "Hopefully the businesses have already begun to think about next year."
The traveling trophy will be presented to Abel's Quik Stop on Friday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m.
