A Louisiana Missouri attraction that provided summer fun for more than four decades will soon be history.
City crews are demolishing the municipal swimming pool in Veterans Park.
Guard towers and the pool house have been removed, and concrete around the kiddie pool is being broken up.
Aldermen agreed in May 2015 to permanently close the facility after years of costly repairs and a failed effort to keep it afloat financially. The low-priority demolition will proceed as time allows while other city projects are addressed. The work should be done before next spring.
The site will be filled and graded, but there are no immediate plans for its use.
The pool was built in the late 1960s. Louisiana still has a swimming facility. The Twin Pike Family YMCA opened an aquatics center in August 2015.
