Louisiana Missouri’s past is part of the state’s future.
The Missouri Bicentennial Alliance is including Louisiana’s 200th anniversary in the state celebration scheduled for 2021.
The State Historical Society will promote the Louisiana event this summer and allow the city to use the state bicentennial logo, which won’t appear on license plates until 2020. So far, Louisiana is the only Missouri city to receive the recognition.
The effort is the work of former Louisiana teacher Gary McKiddy, who recently spoke in Louisiana about a photo book about the city that he and another author are publishing. McKiddy is president of the Missouri Council for History Education.
The Louisiana celebration is scheduled for June 30th to July 4th. More information is available by logging on to www.louisiana200.com.
