Louisiana Missouri is remembering a nationally-prominent statesman who died a little over a century ago Thursday (April 12)
Senator John Brooks Henderson co-authored and introduced the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery. He passed away at age 86 on April 12, 1913.
Henderson also was a strong advocate of women's voting rights and campaigned against government corruption.
As part of its bicentennial celebration this year, Louisiana plans to place a statue of Henderson atop the Mississippi River bluff in Riverview Park. Henderson donated the land to the city in May 1903.
The ceremony is planned for June 30th. The city's bicentennial celebration will continue through July 4th.
