Motorists who violate traffic rules along a congested part of Interstate 70 will pay double fines starting Monday (April 4).
The state is designating the stretch from Route A to Wentzville Parkway as a Travel Safe Zone. The move comes after studies showed the number people killed or injured in accidents along the stretch was greater than that of similar roadways.
The Travel Safe Zone will remain in place for a year and then be reviewed to see if it should be continued.
A similar area is already in place along Highway 61 between Route A and Dietrich Road at Wentzville. An accident in January that killed a Troy woman and her two children has prompted calls to install cable barriers and extend the zone to the Lincoln County line.
