The Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana will be closed for routine work early Saturday morning (April 2).
Crews will wash the structure from midnight to 5 a.m. Motorists using U.S. Highway 54 between Missouri and Illinois will have to find an alternate route during those times.
Missouri regulators are trying to find funding in the new five-year construction plan for replacing the 88-year-old structure, which remains at the top of Missouri’s critical bridge priorities.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will review a draft of the plan in May and approve a final version in July, with a public hearing in between.
A new bridge is estimated at more than 60 million dollars, with Missouri and Illinois splitting the cost. A federal grant will help, but Missouri has yet to come up with its share.
