On Wednesday, March 16th, Mayor Niedner met with executives working with Fifth Gear to discuss the changes and challenges facing Louisiana’s largest employer. They expressed long term goals for the Louisiana facility and discussed specific challenges they would like to address as they continue to work with management to evaluate options. A continuing dialog between the representatives and local government has been established to pursue key issues such as child care, transportation, and facility improvements. Most of the challenges align well with workforce development goals already identified and being pursued by the administration. Mayor Niedner expressed his optimism, “It is a blessing to our efforts to have Fifth Gear’s representatives this engaged on these workforce challenges.”
Fifth Gear is currently hiring and is in the process of reviewing its pay scale. They hosted an onsite job fair last week. The company has also already begun exploring daycare options giving the joint effort a head start in formulating a plan forward.
The Mayor’s Office is playing an important role in encouraging success and consistency for the Louisiana facility. Mayor Niedner says “we are working closely with Fifth Gear on a number of issues which can help secure and enhance the future for the company. I expect a specific plan to emerge within three or four weeks.”
Fifth Gear is a fulfillment, distribution facility, and call center located in Louisiana, Missouri. The company provides ecommerce technology and service solutions to retailers and manufacturers.
