Bowling Green continues to hammer out rules for allowing alcoholic beverages in city parks.
A preliminary proposal would require groups to provide insurance and pay for security at events where beer and liquor are served.
Some ideas are being drawn from the policy used at the Bowling Green Community Center – the only city-owned place where alcohol is allowed. The rules there include a 200-dollar deposit.
More discussion with the Park Board, aldermen and the city attorney is planned before a final draft is ready for review.
Aldermen endorsed drafting new guidelines after hearing from supporters who said the city is losing out on many community events because of the current ban. Opponents voiced concerns that liquor will only contribute to crime and safety problems.
The city hopes to have a new ordinance in place by spring.
