Louisiana plans to seek voter approval April 5th of a three-quarter-cent sales tax increase.
Approval would generate about 270 thousand dollars a year. The money would be spent on citywide repairs, with the immediate focus upon Georgia Street. Sewer, water system and parks improvements would be included.
The plan calls for borrowing money and prioritizing major projects up front. Revenue from the tax increase would be used to pay off the loans over time. City Superintendent Kelly Henderson said Louisiana already is working with agencies such as USDA to assist with funding.
The City Council is still working out the ballot language and plans a special meeting January 20th. The city has been working on a comprehensive blueprint for Georgia Street improvements and other projects for several months.
