Pike County Commissioners agreed Thursday (Dec. 10) to loan the sheriff’s department 142 thousand dollars to cover outstanding bills.
The money will come from the general revenue fund and quarterly repayments of a little over 35 thousand dollars will be made. The loan must be fully repaid by the end of 2016.
A half-cent law enforcement sales tax is used to pay salaries and other costs in the sheriff’s department. The county found recently income from it had failed to meet projections and that there were outstanding bills that required payment.
The county won’t see any significant revenue from the tax until early next year. Existing sales tax revenue will be used to meet the last two sheriff’s department payrolls of 2015.
