The City of Louisiana “Community and Employee Relations Committee” has conducted numerous sessions with city staff in an effort to provide adequate health insurance for employees.
Both employees and city officials felt these meeting were crucial due to the current health insurance provider discontinuing business in Missouri, and the desire to offer employees a product which will better fit their needs. In an attempt to understand the quickly changing regulations, some of these meetings have included presentations from professionals in the health care industry.
Issues, such as rising premiums, changes in regulations, and striving to provide useful coverage to a wide array of individuals is a challenging task. The final decision for a new health care provider is expected to be made in December, as the current contract ends on January 1, 2016.
All department heads for the City have been in attendance for the discussions and presentations.
The “Community and Employee Relations Committee” is made up of four city council persons. This committee was constructed for the purpose of listening to the public, and in this case, the employees, so the thoughts and opinions can be factored into final decisions.
