The Pike County Courthouse Annex in Bowling Green has been evacuated as a precaution after what officials call structural concerns were found.

The problem is in the flooring, walls and roof of the building at 210 West Main just off the square. The city has not condemned the structure and says it is not in danger of collapsing because weight loads have been redistributed.

A structural expert is working on options that could include seeking grants to pay for repair or demolition, but no cost estimates have been made.

The damage was noticed about a month ago and the voluntary evacuation took place after an engineer’s inspection.

The evacuation affects the Pike County Development Authority office, which has temporarily moved back to the courthouse. Some items remain in storage at the annex.

Records show the county bought the former funeral home for just over 71 thousand dollars in 2011 and has spent more than 62 thousand dollars since then on renovations.
