Opponents of a high-voltage power line that would cross Missouri and Illinois have new cause for encouragement after state regulators questioned the project.
At a meeting Tuesday, three of the Missouri Public Service Commission’s five members voiced concerns about Clean Line Energy’s proposed Grain Belt Express.
Clean Line would use wind generators in Kansas to produce electricity and transmit it along a 750-mile route to Indiana.
Randolph, Monroe and Ralls counties in Northeast Missouri and Pike and Scott counties in West-Central Illinois are included.
The Associated Press reported that Missouri commissioners were split Tuesday on whether more access to wind power was worth inconveniencing property owners along the route. The report noted that the questions could foreshadow a vote against the proposal.
Meanwhile, the public service commission on Tuesday approved plans for an Illinois-based branch of Ameren to build a 100-mile power line in Missouri.
