A city councilman is spearheading a fund-raiser to open Louisiana’s municipal pool this summer.

Brice Chandler says about one-quarter of the 20 thousand dollar goal has been collected in just four days.

Chandler says he understands the Twin Pike Family YMCA expects to open its multi-million-dollar aquatics center July 1st.

But he’s had comments from people on Facebook and other sources asking why the outdoor pool in Veterans Park isn’t open.

The reason is the city never reached a contract with the Y to operate it, as the organization did with the city of Bowling Green.

Chandler said the quick response in donations proves many would like to see the Louisiana pool open.

He added that the fund-raiser is an all-or-nothing proposition, and the 20 thousand dollar goal will have to be raised before efforts proceed.
