Missouri lawmakers continue to discuss a Pike County representative’s plan to limit land seizures by power companies.
The House Committee on Energy and the Environment is scheduled to hold a hearing on the bill Tuesday morning (April 28) in Jefferson City.
The proposal by Representative Jim Hansen of Frankford would limit the use of eminent domain by electric utilities.
Clean Line Energy Partners of Texas has said it plans to use eminent domain as part of the 750-mile Grain Belt Express high-voltage line. It would run from Kansas to Indiana through parts of Northeast Missouri and West-Central Illinois.
Hansen has said the project would be a wrongful use of eminent domain. Clean Line has said it will work with property owners on access.
Grain Belt has been given the green light at the federal level and in Kansas and Indiana, but Missouri and Illinois have yet to approve the project.
Hansen’s proposal is House Bill 1027.
