A Louisiana firm is doing on-site testing after it says eight workers were potentially exposed to chemicals.
KHQA television of Quincy reported that eight contract employees were treated and released from Pike County Memorial Hospital after being sent for observation.
The story did not say if there was any potential threat to the public or if government investigators had been called.
The station quoted a Calumet spokesman as saying the potential release of chemicals came from a nearby facility not owned by Calumet. The spokesman said an independent company was being brought in to monitor air quality.
Calumet makes more than 35 hundred products, including oils, solvents, lubricants and hydrocarbon gels. The Louisiana plant mostly produces synthetic lubricants.
The firm bought the former Hercules plant on Highway D in 2012 and announced a 40 million dollar expansion in 2013.
