People of all faiths are invited to participate in Friday’s World Day of Prayer.

The ecumenical event is an annual tradition that involves people in 170 countries. 

It was started by Christian women as a way to bring together different races, cultures and traditions.  

The event dates to 1887, when the wife of a New York pastor called for a day of prayer for home missions.
