Louisiana is among the cities being eyed by a company that says it would provide 150 jobs.
The unnamed firm would make metal transmission poles, but officials are not sure if the company is tied in with proposed construction of a high-voltage power line through the region.
Louisiana was contacted by the company last week. The city has sent a proposal that would include a 20-acre site in its Industrial Park at one thousand dollars an acre and a 50 percent property tax discount for 10 years.
City Administrator Bob Jenne said the company has not indicated how many other locations are in the running, but that a decision will be announced next month.
The firm sought data on the city’s infrastructure and the area’s ability to provide welders and fabricators.
Jenne said the city’s proposal included information about programs at Pike Lincoln Technical Center and the Hannibal Career and Technical Center. Louisiana already is home to a firm that fabricates steel piping.
The controversial Green Belt Express Clean line would transfer wind-generated electricity from Kansas to the East Coast. It still must be approved by Missouri regulators.
