A state panel is expected finalize a list Wednesday of proposed transportation projects around Missouri.
The 17 counties in the northeast region would see more than 100 projects, including a replacement for the Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana. There would also be money for land purchases in the already-approved port authority covering Pike and Lincoln counties.
The work is contingent upon voter passing of a three-quarters-of-a-cent statewide sales tax increase that will appear as Amendment 7 on the August 5th ballot.
If approved, the tax increase would generate almost five-and-a-half billion dollars over 10 years.
A group based in Quincy Illinois has suggested diverting money from some projects, including the Champ Clark Bridge, so that an expressway bypass around Hannibal could be built. The tax has also drawn fire from people who say it will affect those who can least afford to pay it.
