A grand opening for the Cancer Memorial Park on the Bowling Green square is set for Memorial Day.

The park will open at 9:30 a.m., with a ceremony scheduled for 11. Traditional Memorial Day services will be held in between.

During the cancer park ceremony, names of all of those commemorated in the decorative enclave will be read aloud.

The park has been developed over the last decade. Bricks on the floor are engraved with names of loved ones or with special messages. Benches also are prominently featured.
