What another great week we had at the Missouri Capitol! It
is exciting to see things begin to take shape and important issues be addressed
by our State Government. This week I had
the privilege of being appointed to a new committee. I will now be serving on the Emerging
Issues in Agriculture committee. I
am excited to have the opportunity to work hand in hand with fellow legislators
and citizens of the state addressing issues arising in the agriculture
industry. Agri-business has always been
an important part of this District’s economy and having a voice to speak on
these issues in the General Assembly is very important to me. I look forward to being a strong advocate for
all my constituents in the Agriculture industry while serving on this
committee.
This week I had the pleasure of attending a mock-legislative
session hosted by Mr. Easley at Bowling Green High School. What a program Mr. Easley put on for those
students! It was impressive to see
government taught through a creative and interactive mean that was really
engaging for all the students participating.
It was great to be able to speak to these students about civic
engagement and responsibility. The youth
are the future of this country and it is great to see outstanding teachers in
our district doing their part to see we are leaving our communities and country
in well-educated hands. I would love the
opportunity to visit with other schools and classes throughout the
district—please feel free to contact my office if interested in setting up a date
to visit!
Committee Hearings are well under way and a lot of progress
has been made. Medicaid expansion, 2nd Amendment issues, and of
course the Budget are all big topics receiving a lot of time and attention by
the legislature. Another important topic
that was brought to my attention while serving on the Veterans committee and
participating in the Veterans Caucus was the Missouri Veterans History Project. “The Missouri Veterans History Project (MVHP)
is a not-for-profit corporation organized to interview and record the stories
of our veterans. Our nation’s veterans each have a unique perspective to share
about our history. First-hand recollections of their service provide a richer
and more personal context to historical accounts.” If you know a Veteran that would like to
share their story please contact MVHP at 573-522-4220.
This week I had the opportunity to attend a presentation by
the Superintendent of Monroe City, Dr. James Masters. His presentation revolved around
accountability and reform for our public education system. Thanks Dr. Masters for your very informative
presentation. It was also great to see Bowling Green Superintendent Darren
Powell in attendance.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any
questions, comments, or concerns you might have. I can be reached by phone at 573-751-4028 or
by email at jim.hansen@house.mo.gov Your input is very important to me!
All the best,
