The Champ Clark Bridge is now reopened after an early morning accident on the Illinois side of the bridge.
Emergency personal responded to a car vs. semi accident around 8:30 Wednesday morning. A piece of large machinery used to move logs fell off a semi trailer and landed on the drivers side of an SUV and killed the driver. Illinois State Police report that Kyle Brown, 34, of Lake St. Louis was the driver killed in the SUV.
The bridge was closed for more than six hours as Modot crews removed debris and engineers surveyed the damage to the bridge. It is now open to regular traffic but no oversized vehicles will not be allowed until further notice.
