Next week, the NE Regional Blueprint/MO Coalition for Roadway Safety, MoDOT, and each city police department and school listed below, are partnering with businesses and organizations to promote Buckle Up Day. This is an opportunity to focus on one day where everyone is encouraged to start a life-saving habit – buckling up. "We have approached several businesses in each community and worked with the local chambers of commerce to spread the word, and we really appreciate all their help," said Marisa Brown-Ellison, facilitator for the NE Regional Blueprint Committee. She added that 77% of those who were killed vehicle crashes in northeast Missouri this year were not wearing a seat belt, which is why the committee is focusing on the importance of buckling up every time.
Ayers, Inc. and Abel's Oil have both agreed to put Buckle Up on their stations' readers boards throughout NE Missouri, and several banks and fast food restaurants have agreed to do the same. Posters and green ribbons have been distributed to several businesses to display on the community's designated day.
