Beginning Thursday, September 2, the speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph on Business Route 61 approaching the north city limits of Bowling Green. The speed limit was reduced as a safety measure suitable to traffic conditions near the livestock auction facility and other businesses along the road. The speed reduction was requested by the City of Bowling Green and Pike County law enforcement.
MoDOT approved the request for the speed limit change after conducting traffic and speed studies in the area. "The safety improvement will allow motorists to make safer turns to and from businesses adjacent to the road," advised MoDOT Traffic Studies Specialist Brian Untiedt.
MoDOT wants to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during this time. If you have questions about this project, please call MoDOT toll-free customer service number at 1-888 ASK MODOT (275-6636) during normal business hours.
