The Illinois
State Police, District 20, will be conducting Roadside Safety Checks in Adams County
during the 4th of July holiday period, according to Captain Patrick Staples.
“We have a zero – Tolerance for drunk driving in Illinois. If you are going to celebrate by
drinking, don’t take any chances. Designate a sober driver and make the
celebration safe for everyone.”
Officers working
this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating unsafe vehicles,
driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open
alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence.
With the
summertime fun in full swing, it is important to remind motorists to always
“Celebrate Safely”! Designating a sober driver before the party begins is just
one of several simple steps to remember to help avoid a tragic crash or an
arrest for impaired driving.
Alcohol and drug
impairment remains a significant factor in over 40 percent of all fatal motor
vehicle crashes in Illinois. Safety checks are designed to keep our roads
safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.
The Roadside
Safety Check is funded through a grant from the United States Department of
Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois
Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
