The Twin Pike Family YMCA Board of Directors, staff and facility members held the Annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday evening, March 17, 2010 at the Y facility. The Annual Meeting gave the Board of Directors and staff the opportunity to review the accomplishments of 2009 and recognize key staff and volunteers who contributed to the success of the past year. Out-going board members LeRoy Vogel and Dave Ash were recognized for their time served on the board. Elizabeth Fry Matteson and Anne B. Vieira were awarded “Volunteers of the Year” for the time and energy they invested in the fundraising efforts associated with the Phase II facility renovation & the pending Phase III Aquatic Center.
Also recognized for their on-going commitment to volunteering at the YMCA were Dr. Eric Gearing, Helen Crew, Quentin Miller, Nelda Sanders, Dortha Glass and Cathy Taylor. Bob Gast, Stephanie Greenwood and Todd Seward were all recognized as “Employees of the Year” for their contributions to the YMCA and the 21st Century Community Learning Center after school programs.
Executive Director, Marsha Garrison, spoke about the on-going Pool Founders “First 500” fundraising campaign and noted that over fifty individuals and businesses have committed to the campaign, donating outright or pledging over $87,000 to date. Garrison then reviewed the organization’s Annual Report and spoke of the support given to the YMCA during the past year. She then reference the resources put back in to the Twin Pike communities by the YMCA. Garrison stated “Over $528,000 worth of direct financial assistance, indirect community support and program subsidies where put back into the communities during 2009. We had over 250 volunteers that gave more than 2,850 hours back to the community through volunteer service. The evening ended with the election of two new board members, Margaret Goodin and Sheri Eivins, who were elected to 3-year terms.
