ELSBERRY, Mo. — The Clopton Hawks travelled to Elsberry on Thursday evening for a wet and rainy EMO conference match.
Clopton fell to Elsberry 12-0 in seven innings of play on the Indians home turf, American Legion Post 226 Painter Field. The game was originally set to be played at Clopton High School, but due to rain, the game was moved to Elsberry where field conditions were primed and ready for baseball action.
Elsberry’s Kaden Kinsler, launched a ball over the left-center field fence to lead off the game, quickly giving his team a 1-0 lead over Clopton. The team would go on to post two more runs in the top of the first, scoring on defensive errors.
Despite the final score of 12-0, there was great pitching from both sides of the field.
Will Clark was excellent on the mound for the Clopton Hawks, giving up only one earned run in his 5 1/3 innings of work. Defensive errors killed the Hawks, putting them under pressure at the plate.
Sean Phillips was stellar for Elsberry, holding the team to only one hit in his five innings of work. Kinsler came in to close the game, allowing only one hit in his two innings of work as well.
Both teams will have a break over the weekend and will look to pick up wins starting next week. Elsberry is set to play in Louisiana on Monday at 5pm. Clopton will host Montgomery County on Thursday with first pitch set for 5pm.
