BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — A local agency is getting national recognition again.
The North East Community Action Corporation is getting 70 thousand dollars from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
The two-year grant will be used for administration of the NECAC Aspire Partnership Small Homes program, which began earlier this month.
One-bedroom homes will be built by inmates at the Lincoln County Jail and sold by NECAC in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa. LISC is a non-profit financial institution that supports community development initiatives nationally.
Aspire was developed by NECAC, and is modeled after a similar project in South Dakota. Inmates will build the 612-square-foot houses with instruction from the Carpenters Union District Council of Greater St. Louis. They’ll be sold for around 37 thousand dollars. NECAC eventually hopes to offer two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes.
More information is available by calling NECAC at 573-324-6622.
