Clarksville is among the Missouri communities that continue to battle an old foe. The Mississippi River is expected to crest at seven feet above flood stage Monday or Tuesday. Volunteers as young as nine years old are filling sandbags to help keep the water out. So far, it's working.
Help is coming from across the state and around the country. On Sunday, a group from First Christian Church of Sedalia brought supplies to Clarksville United Methodist, which is providing a free daily meal to flood fighters. Though detours are in place because of water over Highway 79 at the south edge of town, Clarksville businesses remain open and highway access is available from the north or west.
If you'd like to find out how to help, call Clarksville City Hall weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 573-242-3336.
