ST. LOUIS, Mo. — For the 27th time in history the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) premier Unleash The Beast tour will buck into St. Louis, holding the PBR St. Louis on Dec. 7-8 at Enterprise Center.
For two days only, more than 30 of the best bull riders in the world will go head-to-head against the sport’s rankest bovine athletes, showcasing the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast in one of the most exciting live sporting events to witness.
The upcoming PBR St. Louis will be one of the first events of the new individual season as riders vie for early points in the race to be crowned the 2025 PBR World Champion.
When the PBR last travelled to the Gateway to the West in December 2024, Cassio Dias (Sao F. de Sales, Brazil) reached a crucial career milestone, delivering a flawless 3-for-3 effort to win his career-first Unleash The Beast event at PBR St. Louis, vaulting to the world No. 1 rank.
The win foreshadowed a historic season for Dias, who rides for the nearby Kansas City Outlaws in the separate PBR Teams league. Holding a firm grasp on the world No. 1 rank for nearly the entire season, Dias fell just short of tying the record for most elite tour wins in a season, riding to seven Unleash The Beast victories, and was one of just three riders to compete at each of the 23 regular-season events.
At his first-ever World Finals, Dias persisted through a nasty wreck in the first phase of bull riding’s most prestigious event to be crowned the 2024 PBR World Champion. With his efforts headlined by a mammoth 92.5-point ride on Ricky Vaughn (WinRock/D&H Cattle/Buck Cattle) Dias finished the World Championship and Rookie of the Year race 238.5 points ahead of No. 2 John Crimber (Decatur, Texas).
Throughout 2024, Dias earned $1,555,707.33, including $1,048,600 for his career-first PBR World Championship.
Historically, more than half (15 of 26) of the PBR’s past events in St. Louis have been won by World Champions. Prior to Dias, Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) accomplished the feat in 2022, while now two-time PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) earned the St. Louis event win en route to his first title in 2020.
A complete list of past World Champion event winners in St. Louis includes: three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (1997, 1998, 2004), two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (2000, 2001), two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride (2003, 2005), 2010 PBR World Champion Renato Nunes (2008), 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (2011) and 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (2015, 2017).
The remaining PBR St. Louis Invitational event winners are: Charles Litchfield (1999), Gary Richard (2002), Dustin Hall (2006), Matt Bohon (2007), Wiley Petersen (2009), Jody Newberry (2010), Fabiano Vieira (2013), Joao Ricardo Vieira (2014), Shane Proctor (2016), Tanner Byrne (2018), Chase Outlaw (2019) and Cooper Davis (2023).
The bull riding action for the PBR St. Louis begins with Round 1 at 7:45 p.m. CT on Saturday, December 7, followed by Round 2 and the championship round at 1:45 p.m. CT on Sunday, December 8. All competing bull riders will get on one bull each in Rounds 1-2. Following Round 2 Sunday afternoon, the riders’ individual two-round scores will be totaled with the Top 12 advancing to the championship round for one more out and a chance at the event title.
