BOWLING GREEN, Mo.– The 98th Annual Bowling Green Tournament has come to an end. The final games of the Bowling Green tournament made for some of the best games in the whole tournament.
The girls side of the bracket ended on Friday, with the one-seeded Elsberry Lady Indians taking home the first-place trophy, as they defeated the number three-seeded Silex Lady Owls, 40 -36 in overtime. The two-seeded Winfield Lady Warriors faced the five-seeded North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds in the third-place contest. Winfield secured a narrow win over North Callaway, 43-42. The Clopton Lady Hawks dominated the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs, 58-29, to claim the consolation prize for the Bowling Green Tournament.
The boys side of the bracket had some exciting games as well. After defeating the seven-seeded Bowling Green Bobcats in the semi-final round, the six-seeded Winfield Warriors continued their winning streak, as they upset the one-seeded Elsberry Indians, 56-51, to win the Bowling Green Tournament. The seven-seeded Bowling Green Bobcats had a rematch against the five-seeded Van-Far Indians. The tensions between the two teams were not as high as they were in the previous game between the two titans. The result was still the same however, the Bobcats defeated the Indians 51-47, to claim third place in their own tournament. Two-seeded Clopton faced off against four-seeded Louisiana in the consolation game. The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs, 50-49, in a nail-biting game down to just 0.6 seconds left on the clock for the Bulldogs to make something happen.
The 98th Annual Bowling Green tournament had many underdog victories, some upsets that occurred, and many great games that will be talked about for years to come. Congratulations to all the teams that took home hardware from the Bowling Green tournament.
