KJFM SPORTS — The Missouri State Golf Tournament for Class 1 and Class 2 concluded on Tuesday afternoon after two days of play and Bowling Green Bobcat Brayden Buffington brought home the top place in Class 2.
Bowling Green’s stand out golfer, Brayden Buffington, sat at the top of the scorecard after round one on Monday. Buffington had a score of 74, leading the pack of 74 golfers participating in the Class 2 tournament held in Bolivar. On Tuesday, Buffington brought his A-game once again, remaining in first place. His superb performance led the Bobcat to his first ever Missouri State High School Activities Class 2 Boys State Golf Championship. Buffington posted 73 points in round two, naming the junior, state champion. In 2019, Buffington placed sixth in the state tournament. A pep rally will be held for Brayden at Bowling Green High School shortly before school dismisses for the year on Wednesday, May 19th.
Silex sophomore, Carter Johnston made his first appearance in the Class 1 state tournament after losing his freshman season to the coronavirus pandemic. In round one Johnston tied for 27th place, posting a score of 87 on the day. On day two, Johnston did one better than the day prior posting a score of 86 in round two. The Silex Owl’s performance tied him for 27th place in the class one tournament.
Clopton’s Zakk Eivins and Justin Jennewein also travelled to Nixa for the Class 1 state tournament on Monday and Tuesday. At the end of round one, Eivins sat tied for 33rd place with 88 points, and Jennewein was tied for 54th with a score of 96 points. Round two was tough on the Hawks, with Eivins scoring 95 points, and Jennewein scoring 96 points. Zakk Eivins tied for 43rd place and Justin Jennewein tied for 55th place.
