PIKE COUNTY, Mo. — COVID-19 is disrupting area high school football once again, this time the entire Louisiana Bulldogs football team is heading into quarantine leaving Bowling Green searching for another opponent for Friday night.
After several years of waiting for the return of the Mayor’s Cup game between longtime rivals Bowling Green Bobcats and Louisiana Bulldogs, fans will have to wait possibly another year. The Louisiana School District announced Wednesday afternoon that every player on the Bulldogs roster came into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, therefore all are having to be placed in quarantine.
As for the Bobcats, Bowling Green Athletic Director Matt Chance said they are looking for an opponent to fill Friday night’s spot. While Louisiana is part of the EMO Conference, Bowling Green will have to be looking for a non-conference opponent but that shouldn’t affect their run at the conference title. The Bobcats had three conference games left, Louisiana, South Callaway and Clopton/Elsberry.
