BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — The Bowling Green Lady ‘Cats were victorious over EMO conference opponent, the Clopton Lady Hawks, winning 9-1 in seven innings. Posting nine runs on twelve hits, the Lady ‘Cats are now only one win away from being conference champions.
Getting the win on the rubber for Bowling Green was junior Tanner Turner. Turner had 13 strikeouts on the night, allowing two hits, and one run in seven innings. The Lady ‘Cats defense made plays behind Turner, stranding the few runners that reached base for the Hawks. Senior catcher, Grace Dameron caught two runners stealing, throwing them out at second base.
Turner also had a big night at the plate, hitting a two-run homerun in the third inning and a solo shot in the fifth. Senior Jade Meier also hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning for Bowling Green, extending their lead late in the game.
Brooklynn McKenney took the loss on the mound for the Hawks, allowing nine runs, striking out four. Shana Yates was two for three at the plate for the Hawks and was the only Clopton player to not strikeout against Bowling Green’s Tanner Turner.
Athletes sported alternate pink jersey’s and pink socks in the annual “Pink Out” matchup in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Bowling Green athletes also passed around a bucket to collect money for breast cancer awareness research from fans in attendance.
The Clopton Lady Hawks will travel to Monroe City on Wednesday night for a non-conference match-up with first pitch set for 5:00 P.M. Bowling Green will look to secure a conference title on Thursday night at 5:00 P.M. battling North Callaway.
