SILEX, Mo. — The Bowling Green Lady ‘Cats travelled to Silex for a tough EMO Conference matchup on Tuesday night, defeating the Owls 4-2. Going into this matchup both teams were undefeated within the conference.
On the mound for the Silex Owls was junior Taylor Howard, who allowed four runs on five hits in her seven innings of work. A power pitcher, Howard demonstrated her strength and speed throughout the game, often making it hard for Bowling Green’s offense to catch up.
The Lady ‘Cats relied on the bunt game and timely hitting from Grace Dameron and Gracie Deters who both had RBI’s. Heads up baserunning and walks allowed the Lady ‘Cats to find themselves in scoring position often against a tough Howard. Walking away with only five hits on the night, Bowling Green was able to string together enough runs to secure a win.
Silex brought the bats in Tuesday’s matchup, hitting the ball hard, often just right at a brawny Bowling Green defense. Junior Carson Harlan went deep for the Owls in the fourth inning, with a solo homerun against Bowling Green’s ace Tanner Turner.
Turner got the win on the rubber but relied heavily on her defense to get her out of jams. In the fifth inning, Silex loaded the bases with two outs, threatening to take the lead and control of the game. Senior Haylee Chandler for the Lady Cats made a huge, momentum shifting, diving play to secure the third out, ending the threat from the Owls offense.
Getting the save for Bowling Green was senior Summer Scherder. Head Coach Craig Smith, put in Scherder at the top of the seventh inning, pulling Turner. The veteran quickly put two outs in the book, before giving up two singles. Unfazed, Scherder battled for one more batter, securing the Bowling Green victory with a strikeout on a change up to end the game.
The Lady ‘Cats will travel to Van-Far on Thursday for another EMO Conference matchup with first pitch at 5:00 P.M. Silex travels to Clarksville on Thursday to battle conference opponent Clopton. Reminder you can always find a full recap of scores by visiting the scoreboard page at kjfmradio.com.
