SILEX, Mo. — The Silex Lady Owls softball teams are helping raise awareness and funds while supporting their teammate by wearing blue ribbons at all their home games for the rest of the season.
Silex issued the following press releasing explaining the blue ribbons…
This season, you will see the Silex Lady Owl varsity and junior varsity softball teams wearing bright blue ribbons at all of their home games. They are wearing blue to show support for their teammate, Kacey Williams, who has Type 1 Diabetes. Kacey is a sophomore, who was diagnosed when she was in fourth grade, almost six years ago. Since her diagnosis, Kacey has not let it slow her down. She is active is softball, basketball, track and numerous school clubs and organizations.
For the first four years, she asked family and friends to join her team and to support her by walking in the JDRF One Walk in St. Charles to raise to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. In five years, her team has raised more than $6,000. This will be her sixth-year fundraising for JDRF.
Since she started high school, Kacey has not been able to have a team because of sports commitments during the annual event. This season, we will be having a ‘Miracle Minute’ in the fifth inning of every home game. We will pass around a bucket for fans and supports to make a donation in Kacey’s honor. At the end of the season, all money will be donated in Kacey’s name to the JDRF in hope to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
Thank you for your support!
