CLARKSVILLE, Mo. — Clopton-Elsberry took advantage of six Louisiana turnovers to beat the Bulldogs 27-6 on Friday night for a homecoming night victory.
The IndianHawks recovered a Mason Washington fumble in the first quarter leading to a seven yard connection between Lucas Martin and Zakk Eivins for a 6-0 Clopton-Elsberry lead.
Tremaine Chatman returned the kick-off 36 yards into IndianHawks territory, but two plays later a fumble was recovered by Jacob Wolanski to give the ball back to Clopton-Elsberry near the end of the first quarter.
The IndianHawks scored on the first play in the second quarter as Martin hooked up with Gabre Hill on a 15-yard pass and catch for a 13-0 lead after the extra point.
The home defense forced a Louisiana punt on their next series and, following a nice gain by Dorian Zumwalt, the IndianHawks scored again on a four-yard pass from Martin to Eivins for a 21-0 lead with the successful conversion from Zumwalt.
After two turnovers and a lack of movement in the passing game, the Bulldogs inserted sophomore Luis Monjaraz at quarterback.
The move payed off early for the Bulldogs as Monjaraz ran on back-to-back plays then hit a wide open Chatman for a 39-yard touchdown to put Louisiana on the board.
The Bulldog TD would be the final score of the first half with Louisiana set to receive the second half kick-off.
The visitors fell on a short second half kick-off near mid-field and burned over seven minutes off the clock on their opening possession, taking the ball all the way to the Clopton-Elsberry two yard line.
The Bulldogs were faced with a fourth and goal play from that spot when Colby Twellman knock down a Monjaraz pass for a turnover on downs.
The IndianHawks were forced to punt three plays later, but Louisiana would never reach the red zone again in the game.
Clopton-Elsberry added a fourth quarter score as quarterback Lucas Martin would sneak the ball in from a yard away to seal the IndianHawks second victory of the season.
Martin finished his night 11 of 16 passing for 186 yards and three scores.
Dorian Zumwalt ran the ball 16 times for 98 yards, scoring on a two point conversion.
